To ensure that Competency Based Curricula is well implemented in all technical institution, NACTE makes sure that all institutions employ the right people as academic staff. To do this NACTE audits the qualification of teachers through a separate rigorous process called technical teachers’ registration. This is done through application by individual teachers by filling in prescribed forms. Two forms are involved, Application for registration as a technical teacher (TTR1) and reference form for registration as technical teacher (TTR2). The application form is completed by the applicant while reference form is completed by the applicant and his/her employer or supervisor. The employer/supervisor assesses attributes expected of someone vested the responsibility to teach, educate, supervise and relate to others, such attributes are:- Trustworthiness, Honesty, Reliability, Sensitivity and compassion, Respect for others, Imagination, enthusiasm and dedication, Communication, Physical and mental health, Professional ethics and Respect of the law.

Any one teaching in a legally established technical institution without being registered is contravening section 5 (1) (b) of the National Council for Technical Education Act No. 9 of 1997. All heads of institutions are liable to make sure that all teachers in their institutions have applied for and granted registration. Any institution which has its teachers not registered to at least 80 percent will not be re-accredited as it will have not complied with the ten accreditation standards.
